My computer is broken- nothing shows up on screen, perhaps video card problem?

The other day, I was using my computer. I went into another room and when I came back, the mouse arrow wouldn't move after I tried moving it around and pressing control + alt + delete (which did nothing). I turned off the computer by holding the power button on the tower, and when I tried turning it back on, nothing apeared on the monitor. The computer was making normal noises and everything, and after I hooked it up to a different monitor and cords, my dad told me the video card has probably failed. Does anybody have any advice? Does my computer have any hope for survival? Should I take it to a repair shop, or just give up hope and get a new computer?|||If you having any expeirience with a computer i recomend removing the memory card and plugging it into another pci jack or what ever kind of jack you have in your tower. if that does not work if you can try to use that monitor on another computer. sometimes its cheaper to replace the monitor than it is to replace your video card depending on your choice in monitor. Using a process of elimination figure out where the problem deprives. Then you can fix it.|||did you try to boot into safe mode?

keep pressing F8 when booting

do you see the bios screen ?|||toast. sorry.
