Can you set a laptop GPU to automatically shutdown when overheating?

My laptop's been broken now twice because of overheating causing the video card to move out of place. I'd like to set up a safeguard to just shut it down rather than having to repair it again. Does anyone know if this is possible?|||You can buy laptop cooling pad
